If you search on the Internet for “restaurant video,” you will find 110,000,000 results. Restaurant videos are hot, yet, there is no one secret for making the genre work, in fact there are many styles. The video I will discuss in this article, employs motion graphics, amidst the appetizing shots of food, and appears to have a message for the public.

The restaurant video I am discussing can be seen on the web site of Winmax Video, a California Company that produces trade show video and other corporate and business videos. It is worth looking at before you continue to read the article. As you watch the video, you will notice that it is short, fast paced and replete with motion graphics. It begins with a mystical flight across a river into a large urban skyscape. From there it fades into shots of pizza, the specialty of King Cole Pizza. The name of the restaurant is presented as a caption in embossed gold, throughout the intro to the short video.

The first shot of pizza, the restaurant’s staple food, is realistic and appetizing, and then the pizza is enclosed in a bubble and backs away from view. It is replaced by a caption, which reads: “Best pizza in town for 35 years.”Behind the caption first one and then another box of pizza enter the screen and then line up one behind the other There are bubbles in the background which lends a fantasy atmosphere to the video, and a transparent glass swirling object to the right.

Next, there is a change in the background imagery as the previous predominantly spiral and swirling motion graphics change to a more square grid like appearance. Two round pizzas come onto the screen and go off again. A round cheese pizza now takes center screen, and it swirls around. To the right is an abstract steel object, which appears to be a combination of a serving tray and also the steel tire rim of a car. Because pizzas are delivered during working hours, the object suggests various forms of pizza delivery, all combined into one image. This pizza dances off and is replaced by another pizza. Another caption comes on , “We give you choices, and we are proud of everything we serve.”

Now, there is a brief transitional background of aquamarine blue and purple. Then a new scene fades in. In the center we see a man serving pizza. He is framed by walls made of pizza images. Below him are two layers of what has become a video collage of pizzas. The man fades out and for brief seconds the center screen turns into an assembly line of pizzas, with the pizzas moving away from the viewer. This fades and is replaced by an almost abstract view of a pizza. The scene focuses and the pizza turns into an appetizing tomato pizza with extra cheese and black olives. A go with salad dish is seen on the upper right screen.

The video now presents another caption: “Get into Action, We Always Welcome Your Visits.” The scene fades and we see an actual scene of the restaurant, with pizza served in an attractive plate, wine glasses and a pot of deep dish pizza in the background.

Next we see the first shot of the facade of the restaurant, which appears as a view through window bars. The bars, focus than fade, the background turns into a street map of that part of California, And the video finally ends with the caption King Cole Pizza, and the web site address.

One way to interpret the video is to consider its relationship to the daily life in the community. All day, members of the community are focused on images of their occupation. At lunch time, when they purchase pizza, the images of business are suddenly replaced by the bright jolly images of delectable pizza, with yellow cheese, green peppers, red tomatoes, and black olives, that come swirling into their lives.

The faced paced video, full of an exciting musical background and lots of motion graphics, shows us how the community perceives the presence of King Cole Pizza on the life of the community. As well as being entertaining, the video presents enough realistic shots of the restaurant cuisine, to whet the appetite of viewers.
